Have you ever eaten Cold Korean Ramen, Sizzling Bulgogi, drank out of a coconut, danced to Justin Bieber’s Sorry, and sang NSYNC’s Bye Bye Bye and ABBA’s Dancing Queen all on one Sunday afternoon? That was my experience at Insa. A 12PM brunch turned into a whole affair including dancing and singing in a private karaoke room that didn’t end until 5PM, and I loved every minute of it.
In complete transparency, I don’t venture into Brooklyn often. It’s not that I don’t like Brooklyn, I’m just lazy and would rather not spend torturous minutes on the train, but that is bad thinking. I need to stop thinking Brooklyn is some far off place (even though it is). Anyway, if and when you do go to Brooklyn, make Insa one of your stops. Really great quality Korean food, perfect for large groups. The chef, Sohui Kim, is on Zagat’s 30-under-30 and also beat Bobby Flay at his own game with his Mandu Dumplings. There is definitely hype around this place, and the hype is justified. Get over there, eat some good food, and most importantly, dance and sing to some ridiculous Karaoke. (P.S. They have all the recent songs you want to sing because of the cool, techy phone app they use, so I got to hear my boyfriend wrap to Fetty Wap).
Mandu Dumplings – Chef Sohui Kim beat Bobbly Flay with these dumplings. I’ll just leave that there.
Steak Tartare – high quality meat, quality flavors that enhance the steak without overpowering it, rich creaminess from the quail egg, and an amazing texture combination with the shrimp nori crisps.
Cold Ramen – Refreshing, light, slightly citrusy and vinegary, and quite spicy – this ramen is the perfect noodle for a hot day; I know Cold Ramen seems a little weird, but they do it so right.
Sizzling BBQ – Comes out and of course, sizzling, and just hearing that sound and smelling that smell is enough to make other tables order it. Super flavorful, tender meat, cooked just right.
Dolsot Bibimbap – a classic Korean dishwith Bulgogi and Vegetables over Rice in a Stone Bowl, Gochujang Sauce, Fried Egg is hard to pass up. I thought this was good and well-executed, but tasted like most other ones I’ve had.
Ice Cream – Vanilla Sesame Ice Cream Soft Serve with a caramelized sesame crisp was ON POINT. Not too sweet, but still satisfying and creamy for a nice end to a spice-filled meal.

Oh, and while you’re at it, order some fun drinks like the Insa Mai Tai (Light & Dark Rum, Orange Curaçao, Almond Milk Syrup, Vanilla & Smoke, Citrus) or the Frozen Monkey Punch (Cachaça, Dark Rum, Banana Liqueur, Coconut Milk) 😉
