As you walk through the heart of the West Village, you physically cannot miss Boucherie. It is not discreet, nor a place to stumble upon, but it is in fact loud and boisterous in a way that is so quintessentially French. However, despite boasting 320-seats and ceilings so high they seem to never end, this grandiose, traditional French restaurant manages to remain charming and cozy. Immediately as you walk in, you will be whirled away from the West Village and wistfully transported to France. The restaurant adorns vintage mirrors and wall décor, dark chocolate wood furniture, an expansive bar (with a fantastic selection of wines and absinthe-based cocktails), and an open butcher counter.

Although very traditional in service and style, Boucherie does not feel stuffy or pretentious. In fact, the staff is quite welcoming, and their charm will convince you to trust them on your wine choice (which you will not be disappointed with). Throughout your meal every waiter is attentive and accommodating, and somehow, they make you feel first class but also at home.

Now the food. I do not have much to say except that it is all outstanding. Boasting French classics with a heavy focus on quality dry-aged steaks, Boucherie will be nothing short of a fantastic meal. Expensive? Yes, very. Worth the spend? 100%. The food here is superb, and they execute everything exquisitely, from start to finish.

This meal is meant to be savored and enjoyed for either a special occasion or when you feel the need to indulge. So go with the expectation to spend quite a bit, and think to yourself, “What the heck, I only live once. I might as well do it by eating and drinking well.” Boucherie will certainly be worth it.

Our Meal:

Saint Jacques a la Provençale: (Seared Scallops, Crushed Tomatoes, Roasted Garlic, Fennel Seeds)

  • This appetizer was a sublime summer dish where the scallops were supple and beautifully prepared. The garlic and tomato were wonderful accents that enhanced but did not overwhelm the flavor of the scallops. 

Soupe A L’Oignon: (French Onion Soup)

  • With such a strong onion flavor and thick cheese, this french onion soup is 100% potent, 100% delicious, and 110% worth the bad breath afterwards. 

Homard Grillé: (2 pound Roasted Lobster with Charred Lemons and French Fries)

  • This dish is served on Mondays only, and would be the reason I would make a reservation here on a Monday. So buttery and intense in flavor, this special is to die for. Also, Boucherie’s fries are fantastic and a fitting site with this dish. 

Filet de Boeuf: (Pat LaFrieda Filet Mignon with Truffle Butter)

  • Ultra decadent, rich, and satisfying: this is a great piece of meat that is tender and cuts as easily as that truffle butter on top of it.

Cote de Boeuf Pour Deux: (40 oz. Tomahawk Rib-Eye, Roasted Bone Marrow, and Bordelaise)

Crème Brûlée: 

  • I’m normally not a dessert person, nor do I often rave about them. This is an exception to my rule. This Crème Brûlée was a superb and delightful ending to our meal.
